How to pack for moving house: five tips to make the process easier
Unless you are among the very few people that have never left the parental home, you have likely had the “pleasure” of moving to a new house.
Pleasure is a word that is used loosely in this sense, as most people do not find house removals at all enjoyable. In fact, most of us loathe the idea of moving, but here are some tips that can make the process a lot easier.
1. Get help
Moving everything you own from one home to another, even if it is just a few streets away, can be quite taxing. It is far too much for one person to take on alone.
But it is possible to find strength in numbers. Enlist family and friends to make the process a bit easier. Make it a moving party with food and drinks to go along with it to entice even more people to show up.
2. Make a checklist
Lists are a great way to make moving house easier.
Write down specifics of what needs to be packed on each day. The moving process should begin weeks or even months in advance. The items within the home that are not used very often can be placed on the first list and so on. Keep lists in order and easily accessible for your convenience.
3. Take things slowly
Unless your move dictates that you have to be at the new location within a week, you likely have some time to spend packing.
The more time you spend packing items room by room, the less you will have to worry about items being misplaced or broken.
4. Pad breakable items
Packing slowly will give you a great deal more time to devote to the moving process being done right. It will also give you the advantage of packing correctly.
Non-breakable items are easy and can be packed together, but breakable ones take a great deal more care. Pack breakables with padding such as blankets, towels or bubble wrap for the best results.
5. Label every box
When packing, you may be tempted to simply pack things away without a second thought. It may be easy for packing, but not for unpacking.
Labelling every box with the room they are supposed to go in will make the moving in process a lot less draining. Trust me, you will forget which box has which items in if this is not done, and you could cause yourself an injury moving them from one room to another.
Organise the experience
Moving can be exhausting. But when you organise the experience, get help, and choose the right house removals company, the process is much easier.
Whether it is your first, second or even third house move, these tips will ensure that it is done right with as few headaches as possible.
